2008 Service Project Opportunities

Looking for a Service Project big enough for a Youth, Family, or Social Ministry Activity?
LSM/NJ has multiple opportunities available throughout the year for groups and congregations seeking ways to help residents who are in need and have limited choices. For more information and to coordinate your donations, please contact 609.699.4115.

Groceries & Gift Cards

Provide gifts of nourishment to Housing Program Residents living on fixed incomes. You are welcome to use to use LSM/NJ "gift bags" to package your generous donation. Another opportunity is to provide Gift Cards from grocery and discount stores. This allows the recipient the independence of choosing their favorites, it also integrates the recipient into their local community.
These gifts are especially needed before the Holidays. For more information and to coordinate donations, please contact 609.699.4102.

Picture Dictionaries for Incoming Refugees

Immigration & Refugee Services is collecting monetary donations towards the bulk purchase of Oxford Picture Dictionaries, including Karen-Burmese-English and Chin-Burmese-English, to assist incoming refugees as they acclimate themselves to their new home. Generally we provide one Oxford dictionary and one tri-lingual dictionary per family. These dictionaries are essential resources for each family that comes in—there is so little available in print in their own languages, and the Oxford Picture Dictionary is quite comprehensive, up-to-date and suitable for all ages. For more information, please contact Rev. Stacy Martin, Director of Immigration & Refugee Services, at 609.393.4900 Ext 12.

I&R Household Items

LSM/NJ's Immigration & Refugee Services is gearing up to address the bulge of arrivals anticipated in August and September.  Roughly 75% of our client base will be arriving in 2 months' time.  Of the 150 anticipated arrivals during this period, 85% of them will need housing and household items.
To accommodate the increasing number of arrivals this summer, Immigration & Refugee Services is seeking short- and long-term availability rentals of any size. Apartments, parsonages, homes, and townhomes within 15-20 miles of Trenton are preferred.  While furnished units are appreciated, unfurnished units are graciously accepted as well.

Emergency Clean-Up Buckets

Help those affected by natural disaster by providing 5 gallon buckets loaded with cleaning supplies, masks and gloves.
Clean-up buckets may be delivered to the LSM/NJ Central Administrative Offices in Burilington. For more information about Lutheran Disaster Response, please contact Lee Zandstra, Director of Community Partnering and Disaster Response Coordinator at 609.699.4133.

Tis the Season for Gift Giving

As you plan for the 2008 holiday season, we ask that you consider giving a gift for a resident within one of our many programs.  Grocery donations and gift cards; calendars, especially those with larger numbers; hats, scarves & gloves; and other items all help to lift the spirit of others during the Holiday Season.

For more information about gift opportunities and to coordinate delivery of your donations, please call 609.699.4102.
